Our Services

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that typically appear on the legs and feet, often presenting as bulging, blue or purple cords beneath the skin. More than just a cosmetic concern, varicose veins can cause significant discomfort including aching, heaviness, swelling, and cramping — symptoms that tend to worsen with prolonged standing or sitting. Our clinic offers a comprehensive range of minimally invasive treatments to effectively address varicose veins, alleviating discomfort and preventing the condition from progressing to more serious complications such as venous ulcers, skin changes.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin, typically presenting as red, blue, or purple web-like patterns on the legs or face. While generally harmless, they can cause mild discomfort, itching, or a burning sensation, and are a common cosmetic concern for many patients. Our clinic offers targeted treatments to effectively reduce the appearance of spider veins, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your skin.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a serious condition in which blood clots form in the deep veins, most commonly in the legs. Left untreated, these clots can travel to the lungs and cause life-threatening complications. Our clinic provides comprehensive assessment and management of DVT, with treatment plans tailored to each patient's condition and risk profile. Early diagnosis and timely intervention are critical — if you are experiencing persistent leg swelling, pain, or redness, we strongly encourage you to seek a specialist evaluation promptly.

Common Varicose Vein Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Bulging and Painful Veins

Enlarged, visible veins that may appear blue or purple, often on the legs or behind the knees.

Calf or Thigh Cramps

Muscle cramps, particularly at night or after prolonged periods of standing or sitting, can indicate vein issues.

Legs Swelling

Noticeable swelling in the lower legs or ankles, often worse by the end of the day.

Itching or Skin Irritation

Skin around the affected veins may feel itchy, dry, or irritated, sometimes mistaken for a rash.

Don’t Wait—Address Varicose Veins Before They Worsen

Varicose veins are more than just a cosmetic concern—they can signal underlying health issues that may worsen over time if left untreated, potentially leading to:

Blood Clots

Varicose veins can increase the chance of clots forming in your legs, which may cause swelling, pain, or even serious complications if the clot moves to your lungs.

Leg Swelling

Poor circulation from varicose veins often leads to fluid buildup in the legs. This can cause discomfort, heaviness, and tightness in the legs, making it harder to move freely.

Venous Eczema

When blood pools in the veins, it can irritate the surrounding skin, causing redness, itching, and dryness. Over time, this condition can worsen, leading to skin damage and discomfort

Thrombophlebitis

Varicose veins can sometimes cause inflammation in veins near the surface of the skin, leading to redness, tenderness, and swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average cost of varicose vein treatments in Singapore?

The treatment cost of varicose veins in Singapore varies depending on the severity of the condition, the specific procedure chosen and the medical facility. Generally, the surgeon’s fees for minimally invasive vein surgery range from S$4,900 to S$7,300, excluding facility or equipment fees. Our clinic follows the MOH fee benchmark for all visits and surgeries.

Varicose vein treatment is usually covered by insurance, depending on your policy and the degree of coverage. Our clinic staff can assist you in applying for a Letter of Guarantee (LOG) and with the insurance claim process.

This will depend on your specific condition, symptoms, and goals. During your consultation, we’ll discuss all available options and recommend the most suitable approach.
Like any medical procedure, varicose vein surgery comes with potential complications, though they are generally rare and mild. Complications may include bruising, swelling, and discomfort around the treated area, which usually improves with painkillers. Complications can vary depending on the procedure, Dr Desmond will discuss these with you during your consultation. Following post-operative care instructions, such as wearing compression stockings and staying active, can help minimize risks and promote healing.
Many patients notice an improvement in symptoms shortly after treatment. Visible results may take a few weeks to become apparent as the body gradually absorbs the treated veins.
Minimally invasive procedures typically result in minimal scarring. Small incisions or needle punctures are used, which heal quickly and leave little trace.
Most treatments cause minimal discomfort. Local anaesthesia is typically used, and patients may feel slight pressure or warmth during the procedure.
After varicose vein surgery, you can typically resume light activities, including walking, on the same day to promote circulation. Most patients can return to work within a few days, depending on the nature of their job. However, strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing should be avoided for at least one to two weeks.
Showering is usually allowed within 24 hours, but hot baths, swimming, and soaking in water should be avoided for at least a week to allow proper healing. Always follow your doctor’s specific post-surgery instructions for the best recovery.
